Our field day dream! |
Every 6th grader in MS447 was very excited for field day! I guess we were all excited for the fun, physical games played at the park, the tasty summer food provided for us, or the fact that we will all be competing against each other and working together as a team. But our hopes were a bit too high for field day. The Department of Education (or DOE) wanted us to stay indoors at all times because of one reason. It was way too
HOT!!!! So our field day was canceled because of that. Isn't that the whole point of having sprinklers, Department of Education? I would understand that field day is canceled if it is raining, but not because of the heat. When we found out field day was canceled, we changed from excited 6th graders to depressed 6th graders. So when the day of field day came, the teachers planned for us to do nonacademic activities to make it up for us, which was pretty nice of them. But it still wasn't the same. About 75% of the activities we did were watching movies. In technology we had a free period, and for ELA, we played hangman as a class and charades but the word you pick to act out had to be an adverb. Ugh. That was a nightmare because it was severely
BORING. The only fun I got out of that field day was having no homework and no classwork! Yay! Most of the kids were absent at field day and I don't blame 'em. But my thoughts about field day and the Department of Education suddenly changed as soon as I stepped out of the school doors. I took two steps and I looked like I just got out of the shower. While walking though Fort Greene park, were our field day was supposed to happen I said to myself, Thank you Department of Education. It was like, a million degrees outside! I felt like I was about to faint in that heat just by walking! So I guess The DOE was right about us staying indoors. So tell me, if you were in the DOE, would you cancel field day because of the heat or let us have field day anyway?
