Water Conservation
For my 6th grade project in Exploration I am making an action plan for water conservation. For my plan, I must educate as many people as possible in order to convince them to conserve water. This is a reason why I chose to create this blog! Fresh, clean water comes through our faucets and as soon as we are finished with it, we have just wasted too much water and I think it's time to cut down on that. So, there are things you can do that not only saves water, but can cut down on your water bill. Here are some simple ways of how you can conserve water:
- When you take a shower, turn the water off as you bathe and turn it back on to rinse. Or take showers up to 2-3 minutes.
- While brushing your teeth, turn the faucet off while brushing and turn it back on for spitting the toothpaste out and rinsing your mouth
- Instead of rinsing your dishes while having the faucet run, fill a bucket with water and dip each sudsy dish or silverware in the bucket. Once you are finished with the bucket, water the water you used in the bucket in your plants.
- Did you know that a fill load of dishes in a dishwasher uses less water then washing the dishes by hand?
- Fill a 1 liter bottle with sand, rocks soil (etc..) and put it in your toilet. this will let less water fill up in your toilet.
- Don't wash your car in your garage or in a parking lot. Instead, take it to a car wash because water is recycled when they use it to wash a car.
- Ladies, don't shave in while the water is running if you shave in the shower. This is because you will spend too much time in the shower and have a result of wasted water :(. What you should do is turn off the water while you shave.
- Put a basin, barrel, bucket or anything else that can hold water that you have outside of your house while it rains to capture water. You can use this water for washing, drinking, or anything else you would do with water with that.
- Don't open those fire hydrants for fun because they pour out so much water and it is wasted too much. They are only used for emergencies!
- If you come a across water that you don't want or need don't dump it on the sink! Dump it in plants.

ReplyDeleteThis actually works?
Yes it does work. A 1 liter bottle might be too big. I used a 20 fl oz bottle which was a MASH soda bottle. I filled it with water, put the cap on it, and placed it under the big ball in the back of the toilet and flushed!
DeleteThanks, Jabber!
ReplyDeleteThis is very sound and interesting advice. I will definitely try a few.
But no way will I turn the water off in the middle of showering. Do you know how hard it is to find the perfect water temp in my old shower? I'd be in there for two hours jumping in and out and around the tub trying to escape the stinging hot water or the icy cold blasts, constantly, manically adjusting the knobs just to save a coupla gallons of water. As I struggle with the dated technology, the evaporating water on my bare hide would cause the most gruesome chills and as the drying soap constricts and hardens, my skin will be pulled into burning crags of epidermal pain.
I'd probably stop showering altogether, becoming unkempt and smelly, losing everything in this life I worked so hard to attain. People will ask, what happened? I'd reply, "the Middle School Jabber told me to save water by turning the water off while showering. I saved water but I could not save myself".
Is this what you want, MSJ? Is this what you want?
